| Description | AN AMBITIOUS multi- million pound plan to save an historic Towy Valley mansion from ruin by restoring it as a Welsh convalescent home for Armed Forces personnel and veterans has just been launched. The Golden Grove Mansion Appeal: Healing the Wounds is a unique project, uniting peace campaigners and those with military service in a desire to see provision being made for our Armed Forces personnel, wounded in the fighting in the Middle East and veterans from past conflicts. At present, there is no such provision in Wales. The appeal aims to raise funds to buy and renovate the mansion and surrounding grounds. The project and the charity will now seek funding from many sources. The idea was originally raised by the West Carmarthen Association of Welsh Independent Chapels (yr Annibynwyr), out of Christian concern for armed forces personnel and their families who presently have to travel to centres in England to visit wounded relatives wounded in the wars. "Although totally opposed to the wasteful and unnecessary conflict in Afghanistan and war in general, we feel provision should be made for Welsh personnel wounded in the fighting," said the Reverend Guto Prys ap Gwynfor, of Llandysul, who is President of the Union of Welsh Independents and a prominent pacifist. "Having to travel to medical centres in England to visit loved ones wounded in battle is an added hardship and worry for families." Kevin Richards, the man behind the charity and a former combat medic who served with the Royal Regiment of Wales, said: "The Welsh have always given their finest men and boys and we have lost quite a few. It's nice to give something back to them and the families of the wounded. "Gelli Aur is beautiful, it will be home from home for the men and women, it won't be run as military barracks, it will be totally unique." "We're going to treat them the Welsh way." |

Feb 05 2010 11:22 AMand they put their heart and soul into helping us raise the money. For any child a sponsored silence would be hard
but these fantasic children are doing it. But that is just a start, there are many projects on going and hopefully
with more people on board the target £200,000 deposit for the building will be reached. Then there is just the
next step of getting the rest of the two million and then the project will own the building. This will be here
for years to come, providing counselling for the future generations, some where that the families can get help
on the doorstep, so to speak. It is set in fantastic grounds, in a David Bellamy award park. Thank you again for
your support.

Jun 16 2010 10:57 AMThe conversation we had,and was explained to me,in great detail, that Help For Hero's funding,(which as been excellent from the country)is used for the facilities in england only
However none of the funds come to wales.
We have four welsh regiments, and it would be brilliant if we the people of wales got behind this cause,so that our welsh men and ladies can come to wales,to be rehabilitated, and as you know we have people of our own regiment, that as ptsd.
The appeal needs your help in anyway, also Wales, so if you can help in anyway, log onto the appeal site,it would be appreciated.
